Bu Qtair In A New Avatar | A New Year, A New Location

    January 5, 2016 /

I don’t understand why the press is so interested in speculating about my appearance, anyway. What does my face have to do with my music or my dancing? ∼ Michael Jackson The above quote stands true for Bu Qtair too. What has the new look of Bu Qtair got to do with the taste of the fish it serves? The charm is still all in the fish, the fresh fish, the deep fried fresh fish, the deep fried spicy fresh fish. Specially the shrimps, although I miss the old Bu Qtair very very much! Bu Qtair is no Michael Jackson. But it is Dubai’s only celebrity-eating-hole that has managed to…

My Best Brunch Experiences | Exploring The Friday Heritage

    August 22, 2015 /

The ‘Dubai Brunch’ makes it to the definition of Brunch in Wikipedia. Although the Friday Brunch is the most common of all, lately Saturday Brunches are also becoming fashionable followed by late evening brunches that are gradually extending upto midnight. Here's a compilation from my brunch experiences.

Weekend in Dubai Calls For A Brunch, A Picnic Brunch!

    January 24, 2015 /

This is going to be one post where I am deliberately not writing much. I want the pictures to convey it all! An amazing day – a real break away from the city’s manic lifestyle… lazing on the mat, surrounded by the greens of Al Badia Golf Club, and the famous cityscape at the backdrop… this was a real picnic – a perfect picnic, a posh picnic, a must-do picnic, a can’t-wait-to-return picnic. I have never experienced such a relaxed day out in the city which boasts of as many different kind of brunches as the number of nationalities that make up the city’s demography! On top of that I…

Scoop In Outram Ghat | Yesss, It Still Exists!

    July 15, 2014 /

A comment left on my Instagram post by my cousin sis who had been my closest friend during my childhood, left me in utter confusion… ‘Does Scoop still exist in Kolkata? Khoj korish toh/do check!’ The referred scoop is not an ordinary scoop of ice cream or a new piece of gossip doing the media round, but a very special ice cream parlour by the Ganges. Visiting Scoop had been a luxury, a special destination for a very special treat that required a lot of saving up. After all, Rs 25 spent on an ice cream sundae from a meager pocket money of Rs 50/week didn’t come cheap. And what…

Istanbul In Pictures | Until Dusk Do Us Part

    December 19, 2013 /

We love travelling and although each place that we’ve visited holds a special charm for me, Istanbul left me spellbound. I found the city absolutely fascinating – a myriad of art, culture, cuisine and religion. It was like a kaleidoscope and put my senses on an overstimulated mode {reminding me very much of Kolkata, the city that I come from}. The charm of old buildings combined with the quirkiness of the modern Istanbul peeping through it that effortlessly blended into a palpable throbbing that could be felt at every corner, each historic site that we visited and each alley we passed by. Every single brick in each building seemed to…

Sultanahmet Köftecisi, Istanbul | Turkish Meatballs or Izgara Köfte

    December 1, 2013 /

After spending the entire morning sightseeing in the Sultanahmet area in Istanbul rushing from one historical site to the other, our lunch halt was also in a historical site – the ‘Historical Sultanahmet Meatballs Restaurant’ (the quoted portion is exactly as it says in their website). The promise of the ‘best Izgara Köfte in town’ in a restaurant which originally ‘created’ them, awaited us. Sultanahmet Köftecisi is located in the crowded and the very touristy Sutanahmet Square in Istanbul, still housed in the original building where the restaurant was established way back in 1920. Although there are more than 20 franchises of the same all across the city and many restaurants…
