In honour of #EarthDay, I would like to share the story of this 900 year old plane tree standing proud in the heart of Telavi. The plane tree, a popular landmark for tourists and locals, specially newly wed couples for whom it's customary to have their pictures taken next to the tree. It's also the grand old 'wish tree' as wishes seem to come true when one circles around the huge tree which today stands at 40m tall with a trunk measuring up to 3.6 meters in diameter and 11 meters in circumference. Sadly, the tree has started to rot as worms are eating away its trunk and will soon dry up the legend. Thankfully, help is on its way with a German expert coming on board to rescue the affected tree. You can build everything on hope, can't you? Well, I met up with @maka_tarashvili, an wine expert and a travel guide on Georgia 🇬🇪, at this landmark like everyone else does, to learn more about her hometown Telavi...and every tale on Telavi starts with this plane tree! #whp🌲

Can I #throwback to this cute cafe in it's stunning surrounding just one more time? Where's your throwback taking your mind tonight? Mine is in Georgia 🇬🇪 still... can't imagine that the entire resort area has packed up for the summers just two days back and is probably green now!

Morning folks! This softie of a wine 🍷🍦ice cream was truly a gem of a find in Old Tbilisi this time. Specially going out to my bunch of girl buddies ~ the Bohochicas and Debbie, my partner in food and grime @foodemagdxb, with whom I had travelled to Georgia 🇬🇪 for the first time, two years back. That's why revisiting a country can be so rewarding ~ you are constantly searching for things beyond the mandatory things-to-do/eat list which has been ✅ with the first time over!

শুভ নববর্ষ… Shubho Noboborsho! On the occasion of the Bengali New Year, here's wishing all of you health, happiness, peace and prosperity. Happy Vaishakhi, Vishu, Puthandu, Bihu... to others who are celebrating their new year too! What better day than today to share the #FryingPanDiaries podcast made on Bengali food 🥘?
.
When the brilliant sister duo @fryingpanadventures contacted me, I thought that the best venue would be my home. The podcast is genuinely beautiful as it delicately weaves the episode through what we tasted … from Shukto to Dhokar Dalna, Jhurjhure Aloo Bhaja, Cholar Daal, Luchi… Murighonto…. Shorshebata, Chingrimaacher Malaikari… Kasha Mangsho … Mishti Doi, Notun Gurer Rasgolla and more. My ma’s Rabindra Sangeet as the background track adds ups the emotional quotient. Although I have spoken about Bengali food many times before, I have never felt so complete, sounded so confident or been so happy listening to myself. Do listen to Frying Pan Diaries, subscribe to them and share the love. Stay blessed and may your coming days be filled with happiness!

//New blogpost// Kavtaradzes’ Khinkali in Pasanauri | Our best food memories in Georgia until now!

We halted at this roadside Georgian family style small restaurant and went inside the kitchen to learn how to make Khinkali and other traditional Georgian dishes. Each meal in this trip had been supremely memorable but this particular one was the showstopper. Apparently all Indian tourists looked for rice in Georgia 🇬🇪 … and although we didn’t ask for it, rice was cooked specially for us. Along with Chashushuli, a Georgian veal stew made with tomatoes. And of course, there was Khinkali, Khachapuri and other dishes. Read read ~ link on the profile!

🔊The breathtaking beauty of the surrounding Caucasus range is complimented by the beautiful Georgian songs playing in our travel guide @giorgi.orjonikidze1974's playlist. Local cuisine and local music ~ these are definitely two of the things that we like to explore when we travel to a new country on our holidays. Talking about music, Georgian polyphony where a Georgian song is sung acappella by men singing in a minimum of three vocal ranges simultaneously, is listed in the @unesco's Heritage list as a cultural heritage. We are still discovering Georgia 🇬🇪in it's full glory ~ culinary as well as cultural!

Adjarian Khachapuri, also called Acharuli, is one of the most popular Georgian dishes and is considered a culinary epic. The Khachapuri or the cheese (generally Sulguni cheese) filled Georgian bread ~ Khacha meaning cheese and Puri meaning bread ~ is the National dish of Georgia 🇬🇪 and there are many regional varieties of them... Imeretian (Imeruli), Adjarian (Acharuli/Adjaruli), Mingrelian (Megruli), Ossetian (Osuri) etc.
@maka_tarashvili, my travel guide on my first visit to Georgia, and now my friend, shares more on this boat shaped Acharuli. According to folklore, when the Adjarian fishermen went to the sea, the ladies at home made this boat shaped dough with a flat base manifesting their prayers for a safe return with a stable boat. The egg represented the sun in the center, and they put it in the middle of the boat with the belief that it would guide the men home. Maka also shows the special way in which one eats Acharuli... cut the egg and cheese filling along the boat shaped bread and stirring it so that the egg gets cooked in the hot cheese, and then tear into the surrounding bread and dip each piece of bread into the cheesy egg sauce ~ 👉🏼on my instastories now. An interesting fact that I found from @wikipedia about Khachapuri, 'as a Georgian staple food, the price of making khachapuri is used as a measure of inflation in different Georgian cities by the Khachapuri index'! American author and wine columnist Alice Feiring shares the recipe of Acharuli from her book ~ For the love of Wine: My Odyssey Through the World's Most Ancient Wine Culture ~ in @foodemagdxb , link on the profile!

Eating Khinkali, the Georgian dumplings in the region of its origin is a different experience altogether. Unlike the Asian dumplings, the juice of the meat (chopped meat and not grinded meat) is trapped inside and has to be sipped first before breaking into a Khinkali. Our travel guide @giorgi.orjonikidze1974 teaches us how... just swipe through the slides. Also went into the kitchen of this family style roadside restaurant by the river Aragvi ~ Kavtaradzes' Khinkali, to learn a few other traditional dishes from this region. It reminded me of my first visit with @coffeecakesandrunning to Georgia 🇬🇪 two years back, when we both learnt to make the Khinkali @iagowinery. Do check out the Georgian recipes in @foodemagdxb and my travel stories from this visit on my instastories!
