Hidden Gems of Dubai | My Pick of Restaurants

    August 26, 2015 /

There are little gems all around us that can hold glimmers of inspiration. ∼ Richelle Mead Hidden Gems. The term is sometimes too clichéd and overrated, specially in an ever evolving city like Dubai. Here, big shopping malls are easier to spot than hidden gems and the few gems that have remain hidden are exposed all too sudden. The example of the latter is perhaps the popular seafood joint Bu Qtair – it’s the most *unhidden* venues of Dubai! However, not everything is lost as yet and there are still many such quaint places in Dubai that provides comfort to one’s soul. I write about such places in my *Hidden…

Where Will You Eat Bengali Food In Kolkata? | From Traditional to Bohemian

    July 30, 2015 /

Food is a central activity of mankind and one of the single most significant trademarks of a culture. ∼ Mark Kurlansky There was a time when finding a Bengali restaurant in Kolkata was difficult. It was limited to either the ‘no-frill canteen’ Suruchi or the ‘hotel restaurant’ Aaheli in Peerless Inn. And much later an inclusion of few Bengali dishes in the menu of Sonargaon in the 5-star ambiance of Taj Bengal. Suruchi is Kolkata’s first Bengali restaurant established in 1969 by the All Bengal Women’s Union and has been frequented by stalwart guests like Satyajit Ray. But it was, and still is, a no-frill joint serving good home-style Bengali food…

Countdown To 2015 | Gobbling Up The Best Views In Dubai

    December 28, 2014 /

It’s easier to go down a hill than up it but the view is much better at the top. ∼ Henry Ward Beecher For a good view in Dubai, you don’t have to go uphill, you can just select some spots for the best views! As the countdown to 2015 begins, my round up posts are all about the *best of the best* from 2014. While an earlier post had me gobbling up gold as I chalked down my list of *edible gold* dishes in Dubai, this post is all about gobbling up stunning views along with my meals at different restaurants that I have come across this year. While…

Countdown To 2015 | The Golden Dishes of Dubai!

    December 22, 2014 /

All That Glitters Is *Edible* Gold! The gold price in the UAE at the time of writing this article is Dhs 4,392.61/ounce or USD 1,195.87/ounce (as per this site) – cheaper than the ‘Diamonds Are Forever’ cocktail available at the Skyview Bar in Burj Al Arab. The latter will set you back by Dhs 4,950 and you will be sipping into a L’Heraud Grand Champagne 1906 Cognac (imagine finding something in Dubai to toast about that is more than a century old!), Luxor 24k Gold Flake Champagne and Jerry Thomas bitters served in a Swarovski Crystalline Cocktail Glass with diamonds in the stem –  a glass that is there for…

#MyDubaiTrip Itinerary For Peeta Planet | A Photo Essay

    September 5, 2014 /

Back to Dubai after a long summer hibernation in Kolkata and other places in India by jumping into a very interesting campaign. If you have been reading my blog and knows me for long, would know that Dubai for me, means more than just a city of blingy shopping malls and highrises. I have created a Dubai itinerary for the award-winning travel series Peeta Planet and Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) initiative #MyDubai. This unique #MyDubaiTrip campaign showcases Dubai around the world and brings in 12 international instagrammers to Dubai to experience the city according to 12 selected itineraries and these will be filmed as webseries. It’s a…

Ramadan in Dubai | The Iftars And Suhoors Around Town

    June 26, 2014 /

Ramadan is just around the corner. So are the summer holidays. While previously, you would expect the summer expat story to begin with many expats leaving Dubai for their respective homes during the summers, nowadays I find that a lot of families are actually staying back here (where else would you get air-conditioned car parks?) and are joined by their extended families. This post lists some of the places that you can have Iftars and Suhoors around town (humble to moderate to lavish!). But for the non-fasting Dubai residents looking out for places where one can eat breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea during Ramadan, here’s a huge list compiled by…

The Tastiest Fast Feasts On Earth | Chowzter Awards 2014 Curated By Food Bloggers

    May 7, 2014 /

The World’s Tastiest dish has been awarded to the Ceviche at Chez Wong in Lima, Peru and the above video is almost like the one that rolls out when a nominated actor at the Oscars gets up to receive his Best Actor award. Well, I am back from London having witnessed a coronation of sorts – imagine honouring some of the tastiest fast feasts of the world with the ultimate objective being to select the ‘single most Tastiest Fast Feast on Earth’! The Chowzter World Awards 2014 held recently in London just did that. It attempts to scoop out the top places to eat local food in more than 70…
